Language Policy |
Our school is committed to nurturing students' language proficiency.<br>1. Mathematics (S1-S6) and Science (S1-S2) are taught in English.<br>2. In order to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning, the number of students in each class of Chinese and English subjects has been reduced, so as to strengthen teachers' support to students.<br>3. Mathematics, Science in junior forms are taught in English- Scientific Investigation, Geography, History, Basic Business & Computer Technology and Life Education in some classes of junior forms are all taught in English.<br>4. For senior elective subjects, students can choose to take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination in English or in Chinese.<br>5. The school employs three NET teachers to enrich the English learning context. |
Learning and Teaching Strategies |
Our school attaches great importance to cultivating students' common skills, especially creativity, critical thinking skills, communication skills, collaboration skills, etc., to help students establish clear learning goals and strategies. The school also focuses on cultivating students' self-regulated learning ability, and strengthens the training of students' skills in setting goals and taking notes. Secondary 1 to Secondary 5 have implemented a school-based "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) policy to allow students to practise the spirit of self-regulated learning. This policy has also effectively enhanced students' learning motivation and interest. Furthermore, the school actively develops cross-disciplinary collaborations to cultivate students' skills and generic skills in the 21st century. |
School-based curriculum |
1. Electives: 3X. Apart from the core subjects, senior students can take 3 electives (3X). Mathematics Extended Parts (Module 1 and Module 2) are also provided. Curriculum highlights: Life Education Curriculum in S1 & 2 helps students set their life goals and learn to have self-management. Thinking Education Curriculum in S1 helps students learn different kinds of thinking methods and learning strategies. Project Learning Curriculum in S2 is specially designed for students to foster their attitude of exploration and to build up a sound foundation of research skills. Religious Studies aims to help S1 to S6 students know about the Bible and Christian faith and values. S1 to S3 students learn how to use the 3D printer, computer design and craftsmanship through Computer Technology and Living, in response to STEAM education and to inspire students' creativity. In addition, the school offers cooking and sewing courses to enhance students' life skills. |
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity |
The school has set up the "Gifted Education Committee", "Extended Learning Committee" and "Student Support Committee" to formulate a comprehensive school-based policy of top-notch and supplementary education. In order to better cater for the diversity of students, the Chinese and English classes are divided according to student ability, so that students can receive appropriate learning support. |
Approach to Integrated Education |
To practise inclusive education in our school, we adopt the ‘whole-school approach’ in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN). Our Student Support Team comprises of the Vice Principal (L&T), Vice Principal (Student Affairs), SEN coordinator, educational psychologist, counselling teachers, qualified counsellors and teaching assistants. Our school speech therapist helps students improve their comprehension and communication skills. Our psychologists also have assessments with students to identify their needs so as to help us tailor-make respective adjustments to their learning. To provide emotional support, our counsellors offer counselling sessions for individuals and organise regular social training groups for students in need. We also emphasize home-school collaboration. Parents are invited to get involved in policy-making discussions for student support. |

Home-School Co-operation |
The Parent-teacher Association, with parents and teachers forming a standing committee, has organised and promoted a wide range of activities. Apart from being a parent manager and participating in school management, parents also serve as volunteers and students’ life coaches to support school activities. The school regularly organises Parents' Day, Parents' Evening, Student Growth Report and Outstanding Student Appreciation Ceremony, and a series of Christian parenting education workshops to strengthen home-school communication and help students grow holistically, allowing the principal and parents to care for the children of Queen Maud Secondary School together by sharing faith and prayer. |

We aim to cultivate students' morality and provide students with an all-rounded curriculum based on biblical truth and values with the slogan “Together we build a community of care. With passion, we extend our learning community”.<br>As a community of care, the Class Management Group coordinates activities, such as 'Growth Tree', 'Retreat Day', 'Fun Day', etc. Together with the dual class teacher system, the school strengthens the culture of care on campus. Moreover, the Religious Committee, Civic and Value Education Committee, Extra Curricular Activity Committee, Counselling Team and Careers Team help students pursue excellence in life. We have been awarded the "Caring Campus Honour Award" by the Christian Family Service and "Caring School" by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, and the "Most Outstanding School" award by the LPD Educational Foundation.<br>In our learning community, teachers are role models. By forming Learning Circles which foster professional exchange and participating in curriculum enhancement programs conducted by the EDB and tertiary institutions, a professional team of teachers have been formed. Teacher Professional Training and Development |
The school regularly organises knowledge management and professional development activities for teaching staff, such as organising learning circles, peer observation, collaborative teaching, new teacher training, class management, and middle management training to enhance teaching and management and promote the school development. The school also actively networks experts from the Education Bureau, universities and other schools to conduct cross-curricular observations and evaluations, exchange educational ideas, enhance the quality of learning and teaching, and establish a professional learning community outside the campus. |
Life-wide Learning |
The school puts emphasis on the balanced development of students in the moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and spiritual aspects. In order to provide students with comprehensive development opportunities and help students develop desirable attitudes and values, the school extends the study of students from the classroom to other diverse after-school learning environments, including extra-curricular activities, social services, school teams, external competitions, etc. Students can also participate in the schemes, such as “One Life, One Art or Sport”, “One Person. One Instrument”, “One Life. One Exchange” to enrich their learning experiences and explore the possibilities in different areas as they grow. In recent years, the school has won the Hong Kong championship in innovative technology, badminton, canoe, electronic painting, chess, micro film and short film creation, etc. Besides, our school's Mathematical Olympiad, Choral Speaking, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Photography and Social Service Teams have also won awards throughout the years. Our school offers over 50 regular Life-wide Learning activities in areas such as faith, intellect, sports and arts, social services, career exploration.
