Language Policy In our school, all subjects are taught in English except Chinese Language, Chinese History, Chinese Literature, Putonghua, Putonghua Drama and Citizenship and Social Development which are taught in Putonghua or Cantonese. An authentic language learning environment is created to enhance students' biliterate and trilingual ability.
Learning and Teaching Strategies According to the EDB External School Review Report, our school has shown good performance in the domain of Learning & Teaching. The school provides a balanced and diversified curriculum to students. Moreover, all subjects in our school are taught by teachers with subject expertise. Student-centred interactive teaching methodologies are adopted with a wide application of information technology. These enhance the learning and teaching effectiveness. Along with this, our school cultivates a reading culture, promotes STREAM education and project learning, combines classroom learning with extra-curricular activities and community services for all students, so as to nurture students' multiple intelligences and strengthens their generic skills.
School-based curriculum 1. Electives: 3X and 4X. Our S.4-S.6 Curriculum offers 12 elective subjects and Mathematics Extended Parts with over 400 subject combinations.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: A diversified curriculum is formulated according to the interest, ability and needs of our students. In addition to the incorporation of the element of English Literature into junior form English Language, English drama and Putonghua drama are also introduced. For the senior form curriculum, diversified Arts, Science, Commerce and Information Technology subjects are offered. There are also the inclusion of Chinese Martial Arts, oriental and western dance training in the curriculum of Physical Education, the conduction of Moral Education and Current Affairs Discussion as well as the integration of moral education, civic and national education, environmental education, health education, life planning and extra-curricular activities into the formal curriculum.
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity Our school possesses an outstanding teaching team. There are 3 native English teachers, 12 Putonghua teachers, 7 additional teachers, 15 professional instructors and alumni tutors to cater for diversified learning needs. Besides, small-class teaching is implemented for English Language lessons (individual forms), English Drama lessons, Putonghua Drama lessons, Enhancement Classes, Remedial Classes and Weekend Tutorial Classes. Academic support programmes like the S.1 Bridging Programme, Academic Support Class and subject tutorials are held after school, during free lessons and holidays. Our counselling teachers, social workers and educational psychologist offer care to cater for students' personal growth.
Approach to Integrated Education Our school has set up the Integrated Education Committee and adopts a whole-school approach to support students with special educational needs (SEN). Resources have been flexibly deployed to provide appropriate and cross-sector support to cater for students' learning, behavioural, emotional and social needs, and to ensure that SEN students have an equal opportunity to develop their talents. Our school has established a regular home-school communication mechanism and support measures are devised in consultation with parents so as to enhance the effectiveness of the support given to SEN students. There is also a close collaboration between the school and professionals, e.g. educational psychologists, speech therapists and social workers for providing appropriate professional support to the SEN students.
Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students
Home-School Co-operation In a bid to strengthen the connection with our parents, the school has set up the Parent-Teacher Association to gather parents' opinions and provide support for parents. In addition, through holding different kinds of activities, such as talks, workshops, reading classes, sharing sessions, voluntary services, interest classes, picnics and parent-child activities, the school has built up a close collaboration with parents.
School Ethos The school motto is 'Be Orderly and Respectful' and we strive to nurture our students' positive personal traits and develop frugal school ethos. The EDB External School Review Report has commended our school for the good performance in the domain of School Ethos & Support to Students. The Values Education and Guidance Board is responsible for launching whole-school moral education and guidance programmes including Form Morning Assemblies, Moral Education and Current Affairs Discussion Sessions, Class-teachers and Assistant Class-teachers policy, Parents' Day, further education and career pursuit seminars, etc.
School Development Plan 1. Optimizing learning and teaching strategies to cater for the diversified learning needs of students so as to develop their potential to the fullest, as well as fostering their self-directed learning habits to obtain a continuous progress in their academic achievements.<br>2. Conducting programmes and activities organized by the school and external professional organizations to shape students' positive values and attitudes, extend students' knowledge scope and horizons, and enable them to understand and respect different cultures and values.<br>3. Providing a six-year life planning programme and diversified learning experiences to help students have a clear understanding about their personal strengths and potential for goal setting and realization.
Teacher Professional Training and Development Our school joined the local university-school support programmes, e.g. the 'Multilevel Leadership Network for SDL Innovation to Advance STEM Development' project organized by The University of Hong Kong, 'Quality School Improvement Project' organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc. Continuing professional development activities, collaborative lesson planning and teaching, lesson demonstration, lesson observation and school exchange activities are organized not just to enhance teachers' professional knowledge, but also establish professional learning communities for knowledge creation. Teachers are proactive in professional development. They join various educational workshops and seminars as well as professional training courses on catering for students with special educational needs.
Life-wide Learning Our students show outstanding performance in Other Learning Experiences activities and obtain over 400 prizes every year. Championships have been won in various world-wide, Asian and territory-wide competitions. Extra-curricular activities are integrated into the formal curriculum. There are over 60 clubs, uniforms groups, service teams and student organizations which provide diversified activities in academic areas, arts, sports, services, leadership training and interest development, etc. There are also school campus TV broadcasting, moral education, environmental protection, health education, civic and national education, career and life planning activities, community services, etc. Every student in our school joins at least two study, exchange and service tours to the Mainland and overseas countries. In addition, Swimming Gala, Athletics Meet, Student Activity Days and School Picnic are organized every year.
