Language Policy Our school places great emphasis on English teaching and learning. Since the 2010-11 academic year, English has been utilized as the primary medium of instruction in our S.1 classes. (Please refer to the subjects offered in the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 School Year for more details). We strive to enhance our students' English proficiency through a range of language activities, including summer camps focusing on English learning through cultural exchanges, English study tours, English Action Days, English drama competitions, and performances. Students actively participate in the English speech festival, English public speaking competitions, Scrabble competitions, and debate competitions. To further strengthen English learning and teaching, our school employs English as the primary medium of instruction for numerous subjects. The daily morning announcements broadcasted through our PA system are conducted in English. Additionally, on Saturday mornings, the school offers various English learning classes.
Learning and Teaching Strategies To facilitate school development, our school focuses on the following areas:
1. Cultivating proactive and self-motivated learners by implementing a timetabled self-regulated learning period to develop students' habits of lesson preparation and reflection.
2. Enhancing students' proficiency in English to elevate their language skills.
3. Introducing Global Classroom to provide students with opportunities to engage with individuals from different cultures to widen students’ horizons.
4. Implementing various measures, such as adopting the "Three-Tier Implementation Model," to address learner diversities and plan and execute school-based gifted education initiatives. This includes providing tutorial and enrichment classes for both high-achieving and low-achieving students.
5. Promoting e-learning through the utilization of platforms and applications such as Microsoft Teams, LoiloNote, Nearpod, and eClass to spark students' interest in learning and cultivate a spirit of self-regulated learning.
6. Enhancing learning effectiveness by teaching students valuable learning strategies such as mind mapping, concentration techniques, reading strategies, group discussions, and note-taking skills.
7. Creating an environment that encourages striving for excellence and personal development, while also recognizing outstanding performance and significant improvements.
School-based curriculum 1. Electives: 3X. 13 elective subjects. Most of them use English as the Medium of Instruction.
2. Curriculum highlights: To equip students with the necessary knowledge for the NSS curriculum, different curricula have been designed in addition to the formal curriculum. For example, for Junior forms, we offer Life Education and Computer Studies. To widen students’ learning experiences, Other Learning Experiences (OLE) sessions are scheduled in the afternoon of every Day 6. This allows committees and subject panels to organise diverse learning activities to promote a well-balanced, whole-person development in our students.
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity 1. We promote a whole school inclusive education approach to support students with special educational needs.
2. We are one of the Education Bureau’s Gifted Education Partner Schools.
3. We promote Gifted Education through the following three tiers:
The first tier (school-based, whole school): train students’ high order thinking skills, creativity, and social skills. The second tier (school-based, pull out): provide students with various extended courses in different subjects and leadership training. The third tier (outside school support): nominate students to participate in gifted classes outside school.
Approach to Integrated Education Our school is dedicated to cultivating an atmosphere of love and care, as we deeply value the uniqueness of each student. To cater to students with special educational needs (SEN) through a Whole School Approach, we have established a Student Support Team consisting of a teacher coordinator, an educational psychologist, a speech therapist, social workers, a counselor, and subject teachers. This comprehensive team aims to provide students with appropriate and diverse support services. One of our school's peer mentoring programs, "Big Brothers and Big Sisters," is designed to assist students in adapting to campus life. We also adjust assignments, tests, and examinations to accommodate students' learning differences and enhance their learning efficiency. Regular after-school tutoring classes are also offered. Our school places great emphasis on the collaboration between home and school, establishing an ongoing communication mechanism between parents and the school. Through various communication channels, parents are encouraged to participate actively in school activities. At our school, parents and teachers work together to develop strategies for supporting students.
Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students
Home-School Co-operation The Parent-Teacher Association was established to enhance home-school collaboration. A wide range of activities are held including the English, Mathematics, and Science Enhancement Programmes, as well as seminars, workshops, outings, etc.
School Ethos Our school has a harmonious school ethos, and our students are well-disciplined. To foster their holistic development, we provide the S.1 Caring and Development Group, the “I Can Do it Scheme”, Kei Yuen Award, the Merit Award Scheme, and the Principal’s Meeting with Outstanding Students Scheme. Also, the Counselling Committee runs the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Scheme as well as the After School Learning Support Programme for S.1 students. The Moral, Civic and National Education Committee organises various activities to enhance the development of students’ multiple intelligences.
School Development Plan Major Concerns:
1. To Strive for Academic Excellence-foster proactive and self-motivated learners, unleash students’ academic potential, and cater for students’ diversities with various talents and learning needs.
2. To Embrace Whole–person Development-nurture positive values and attitudes in students, support and assist students in achieving a sense of accomplishment, and develop students’ careers aspirations.
3. To Establish a Professional Learning Community-implement a sustainable plan on professional development, promote professional sharing and interflow with school, and invite experts and organisations to contact professional development programs in line with school development.
