Language Policy 1) The College uses mainly English as the medium of instruction. <br>2) The College joined the Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) in September 2008. This allows curriculum flexibility—offering more electives, school-based subjects, and local and international examination opportunities. <br>3) To echo the policy of the Hong Kong Government to develop Hong Kong as a regional educational hub, we have an exchange and immersion programme for students to develop a national multi-cultural and global outlook.
Learning and Teaching Strategies 1) The spacious and well-equipped campus enables students to learn in a high-tech environment. <br>2) Small classes are adopted. Enrichment and remedial classes are conducted in core subjects to stretch students’ potential. <br>3) To develop students’ biliteracy and trilingualism, native speakers have been employed. <br>4) Curriculum flexibility—the offering of more electives, school-based subjects, and local and international examination opportunities. <br>5) Through participating in the Boarding Taster Programme at junior levels, students can enhance their social and collaborative skills, sense of independence, study skills and life habits. <br>6) To develop multiple intelligences, students experience a range of creative pursuits through the Creativity Program: Creative Media, Creative Ceramics, Creative Music (Composition), Creative Innovation and iEngineering. <br>7) The Exchange and Immersion Programme enables cultural exchange and an appreciation of language. <br>8) Students can understand the needs of the local community through the Service Learning Programme.<br>9) The Mentoring Programme can enrich students’ careers-related skills and experience. <br>10) Values and civic education are embedded in the curriculum.
School-based curriculum 1. Electives: 3X. The College will offer in Senior Secondary the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in parallel with the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: To align with the requirement for biliteracy and trilingualism, Chinese Language is taught in Putonghua in junior forms. Cantonese is used as the medium of instruction in Chinese Language in senior forms. To strengthen students’ ability of Classical Chinese, supplementary materials are tailor-made at different levels. Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity The junior form classes have been split into 9 groups per form in language classes and is about 20 students in a group so as to maximize teacher-student and student-student interactions.
Approach to Integrated Education 1) SEN Team adopts a 3-tier support model to provide appropriate support for students according to their diverse needs. Tier-1: Early identification and quality teaching in the regular classroom for students with transient or mild learning difficulties. Tier-2: Additional support for students with persistent learning difficulties. Tier-3: Intensive individualized support for students with severe learning difficulties.<br>2) SEN students are followed up by SEN team and School Social Workers. Case conferences are held to give guidelines to teachers on how to support the SEN students. Teachers are informed of special arrangements for SEN students, including arrangements for tests and examinations.
Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students
Home-School Co-operation 1) In order to enhance the effectiveness of education at home and at school, activities such as career talks, thematic seminars and workshops are organized.<br>2) To support the school development, the PTA offers scholarships and subsidies for students’ activities. It also prepares gifts and cards to show respect for teachers. Some of the parents also participate in some services organized by the school.<br>3) PTA newsletters and Parent-Teacher Day can foster the parent-teacher rapport.
School Ethos 1) Students are confident, responsible and creative. They also have good relations with teachers. <br>2) With the Guidance Team, the Discipline Team carries out a Correctional Scheme to encourage positive behaviour and outcomes cooperating.<br>3) Since becoming a DSS school, the College has implemented an extensive types of activities which aims to train students as responsible, knowledgeable and creative leaders of the future.
