Language Policy |
We have adopted English as the medium of instruction (EMI) in some non-language subjects in some classes in junior forms. Both Mathematics and Science (S.1 and S.2) are taught in English. S.3 Life and Society and Science subjects are taught in English or have Extended Learning Activities in English.<br>A series of school-based teaching and learning packages has been integrated into the curriculum for the sake of English learning. English learning is a priority of school development. We have held a variety of English learning activities, such as English Activity Days, NET Chats, Lunchtime English Performances, news presentations, science, music, visual arts and physical education activities in English. These activities enrich the English learning environment for the students and maximize their exposure to the language. |
Learning and Teaching Strategies |
To further enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning: <br>1. Teachers participate in focused lesson observation and lesson study. <br>2. We train our students with a variety of learning skills. <br>3. We encourage learner autonomy by introducing diversified reading and web-based self-learning platforms. <br>4. We have programmes to enhance students' English proficiency. <br>5. We help students of lower ability in learning Chinese, English, Mathematics. <br>6. We set up English Village and Mathematics Corner in order to provide extended learning opportunities for students. <br>7. We provide a balanced and comprehensive curriculum, covering study skills, life skills, Civic, Moral and Environmental Education and National Education (including the Constitution and Basic Law Education, National Security Education). <br>8. We have timetables of great flexibility, incorporating reading periods and time slots for other learning experiences in order to cater for all aspects of the students' learning needs, and to enrich their school life. |
School-based curriculum |
1. Electives: 2X. Our school provides multiple elective subjects (33 combinations) for students to choose according to their interests and abilities.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: Based on Hong Kong educational goals and the central curriculum, together with the education goals of the school and strengths of the school, we have developed our curriculum which suits the abilities and needs of our students. To promote the development of the key tasks and diversified learning experiences of students, elements such as civic and moral education and social services are diffused into our curriculum. Our Academic Team is also committed to assisting teachers to develop different teaching strategies and techniques, such as life-wide learning, the use of information technology in education, cooperative learning and self-regulated learning activities. |
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity |
1. In teaching, all subject teachers adapt their teaching methodology, teaching materials and assessment modes to cater for learner diversity to promote students' interest in learning;<br>2. We organize activities and courses for students with different abilities:<br> (1) Effective learning programme for high achievers in S.2 and S.3. <br> (2) Nominate and subsidize elite students to join programmes organized by the Science Academy for Young Talent of the Faculty of Science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.<br> (4) Nominate and subsidize elite students to join the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Dual Program (DP).<br> (5) Nominate gifted students to join the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education and encourage them to apply for related courses.<br> (6) Organize courses for high achievers from S.4 to S.6 with the Diversity Learning Grant (DLG). Courses include Chinese writing and appreciation class, Training class for Mathematics geniuses, Advanced graphic arts class for Visual Arts etc.<br> (7) Remedial classes for junior forms; tutorial classes on specific subjects for senior forms;<br>3. Various extra-curricular activities are provided to arouse students' interest and explore their potentials, and compliment their overall performances with "Student Learning Profile". |
Approach to Integrated Education |
We are dedicated to cultivating the culture of integration by means of a 'whole school approach' in support of students with SEN. Through the allocation of resources, we provide appropriate and multifarious assistance and services in order to enhance their learning efficiency and enable them to integrate into school life.<br>The Student Support Team consists of SEN Coordinator, SEN Support Teacher, Discipline Mistress, Counseling Mistress, Chinese Subject Panel, English and Mathematics teachers, discipline teacher, counselor, social workers and educational psychologist.<br>We make use of Learning Support Grant to employ a counselor for implementing the inclusive education programme 'Pleasurable Learning Scheme' and acquire professional services such as small-group activities, training classes in reading and writing, speech training courses for students with SEN.<br>We provide them with appropriate adjustments in learning, homework, tests and examinations. We hold inter-disciplinary professional meetings to formulate tailor-made schemes for assisting students.<br>We emphasize the cooperation between family and school. Through various channels such as phone dialogues and face-to-face meetings, teachers and parents work together to discuss and monitor all the relevant strategies for student development. |

Home-School Co-operation |
We aim at promoting home-school co-operation. Through a series of activities organized by our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), we enhance the capacity of the parents, so that students will have better family support. We have family education talks for parents and sharing sessions for parents of Form One students to improve their parenting skills. In addition, we hold different classes and social functions, such as yoga workshops, parent-child outings and photo-taking activities. Moreover, to cater for parents' well-being, the PTA organizes meditation classes for parents to reduce their stress and boost their concentration. Through participating in these activities, teachers, parents and students can enjoy healthy leisure time. Besides, the gatherings allow the participants to share their anecdotes and lives. |

Our school ethos has won respect and recognition from the public. We focus on providing support for students, including:<br>1. Good use of resources, such as "school-based after-school learning support scheme" to enrich students' learning experience;<br>2. Partnership with parents;<br>3. Invite outstanding alumni and successful people in our community to deliver talks so as to inspire students and to broaden their horizons; provide life education, moral education, effective learning programme;<br>4. Organize the 'Big Brothers Big Sisters' mentoring programme and homework support programmes, bridging courses on Chinese, English, Mathematics and English Oral Communication Training for S.1 students;<br>7. Invite alumni to be the mentors of mentorship programme for our senior secondary students.<br>8. Arrange meditation class for all students to relax physically and mentally, so that students can be more concentrated in learning and become more resilient. |

Teacher Professional Training and Development |
Our teachers actively participate in workshops and seminars, where they interflow with other educators or teachers. Besides, thematic workshops and seminars, such as, "Assessment for Learning", "Co-operative Learning", "Enhancing Learning Motivation", "Catering For Learning Diversity", "Visits To Schools overseas", "E-learning", "Self-regulated Learning", "National Security Education" have been organised for teachers. In order to facilitate better learning and teaching, the school has implemented "Lesson Study" for many years. |
Life-wide Learning |
The aims of Extra-curricular Activities Team are to enable students to understand our society in a comprehensive way and to develop their potential. Therefore, we guide students to actively participate in extra-curricular activities and organize a variety of interest groups. Students can participate in them for balanced development. We have a Students' Association, with its 4 Houses, 4 societies, 8 clubs and other ad hoc rest groups. They organize various competitions and activities. We also have a service group, three youth organizations and six uniformed teams, which are fostering the spirit of community service among students. |
