Language Policy In order to strengthen students’ ability in coping with senior secondary form curriculum and better prepare for further tertiary education, English has been adopted as the medium of instruction in Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 Mathematics and Science. Our school puts emphasis on building up the reading and writing interest and habit to develop students' language abilities. Reading resources with suitable levels are purchased and the strategies are implemented in promotion of the reading and writing atmosphere.
Learning and Teaching Strategies To cope with students' wide variety of talents and skills in this knowledge-based society for the 21st century, we stress the importance of developing students' critical thinking and problem solving skills. The curriculum in our school is designed with e-learning materials and problem-solving approach in order to develop their critical and logical thinking abilities and deductive and problem solving techniques. These lay the foundation of life-time self-learning skills that students can acquire and create knowledge by themselves. The content in four major domains, knowledge, skills, attitude & affection are integrated together through task-based learning. Besides English, Mathematics and Science, numerous electives are added for increasing the interest and curriculum diversity. Teachers in different subjects can co-operate and undergo cross-curricular teaching with suitable theme. Under the integration of curriculum, the subject knowledge can be merged in our daily lives (e.g. precaution of infectious disease, war on anti-terrorism and deflation of economy etc.) and this makes the learning more meaningful and authentic. Every cycle there are reading sessions to promote a positive reading atmosphere. There is a newly designed library full of rich and abundant reading material that captivates and encourages students to read more. A selection of books have already been chosen for students to share and read during their reading sessions. Teachers also recommend books for students and will also arrange special events such as an author book signing and a mobile book exhibition to motivate students to share their reading experiences with others.
School-based curriculum 1. Electives: 3X. Our school provides senior students with a diversified choice of elective subjects to cater for students’ interests, abilities and needs and to equip them better for meeting the needs of an ever-changing society.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: Based on the framework devised by the Curriculum Committee, we flexibly adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of our students and the long-term development of our school. By deploying the school's resources and advantages, we aim at providing our students with the necessary learning experience and developing their generic skills for their lifelong learning and whole-person development.
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity Our school provides students various learning modes, including e-learning, self-directed learning and cooperative learning. Through curriculum adaptation and comprehensive homework policy, students’ learning diversities are catered. Our school also support students with special needs by providing after school remedial classes to build learning confidence and motivations.
Approach to Integrated Education Our school aims at building an inclusive and caring campus with the whole school approach. The school established the inclusive education committee includes vice principal, SENCO, teachers and counselor with training in catering students with special needs, teaching assistants, social workers and educational psychologist, which provides collaborative support for facilitating students’ learning effectiveness. The coordinations between teachers and professionals enhance early identification, assessment and further transfer for students with special needs. Special arrangement on formative and summative assessment is made for student learning diversities. Through the optimal use of the Learning Support Grant, the school employs extra manpower in teaching, purchases professional services (including services for speech therapy and occupation therapy) and organizes interest groups for student personal growth and career explorations. Our school also puts emphasis on the cooperations with parents. Therefore, seminars for parents and regular parent gatherings are conducted by our educational psychologist or counselor to take care of personal growth needs of our students.
