Language Policy |
The school places a lot of emphasis on developing students' biliterate and trilingual abilities. To cater for learners' diversity, English classes in various forms are split into small groups and after-school tutorial classes are also arranged. S1–S3 Science and Mathematics, S4 Mathematics and Science subjects are all taught in English. This arrangement will extend to all senior forms gradually. Bridge programmes and after-school remedial classes are arranged to help S1 students adapt to using English as the medium of instruction. In order to promote an English-rich environment and cultivate self-directed learning among students, an English Vocabulary Self-learning Program is arranged in all forms. Our native English-speaking teachers teach English Language Arts in junior secondary classes and S6 oral lessons. The school also promotes English e-reading and organises various English-learning activities such as English Debate Team, English Week and study tours to English-speaking countries. Both the Chinese Panel and the English Panel encourage students to take part in the Speech Festival and the participants have won numerous prizes. Putonghua is taught in junior forms, emphasizing the training of students' listening and speaking skills. |
Learning and Teaching Strategies |
1. Gifted education is advocated to cater for different educational needs of students.<br>2. The school is student-oriented and adopts the approach of collaborative inquiry. It aims at developing students’ communication abilities, collaborative learning abilities and higher-order thinking skills. <br>3. To promote active learning, e-Learning is advocated and students are trained to develop good learning strategies and habits. <br>4. Through the implementation of collaborative lesson preparations, lesson observations and evaluations, our school aims at developing a professional learning community and enhancing the teaching and learning effectiveness.<br>5. The whole-school BYOD policy is implemented so as to foster and widen students’ learning capacity. |
School-based curriculum |
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. About 60% of students study three elective subjects. A diversified NSS curriculum is provided to allow students of different aptitudes, needs and abilities to reach their full potential.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: <br>a. English Language: English Language Arts is taught by the NET.<br>b. Computer Literacy: STEM elements are added.<br>c. S.1 Learning Strategy: Memorization, reading and note-taking skills are taught.<br>d. S.3 Life and Society: Topics like the Basic Law, Resources and Economic Activities, Social Systems and Citizenship are covered.<br>e. Aesthetics development: To enrich the vision and broaden the learning experience in arts of the students.<br>f. Life education: this subject is newly set up to guide students to explore the value and meaning of life, and to enhance their ability to cope with the challenges in an ever-changing world.<br>g. The school-based curriculum of Religious Studies covers biblical knowledge, ethics, social issues and so on. Pastoral staff from Chinese Rhenish Church co-teach with teachers and share their beliefs and life experiences with students.<br>h. The course entitled “No Apologies: The Truth about Life, Love and Sex” has been adopted in implementing sex education. It is conducted in Religious Studies lessons in which Christian values and sex education are introduced to students. |
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity |
To enhance students' learning effectiveness and to cater for learner diversity, the school adopts the collaborative learning approach. The school has also set up the Gifted Education Team, which implements and monitors the development of Gifted Education programmes. To cater for individual differences, enhancement classes and remedial classes are organised for students after school. |
Approach to Integrated Education |
The school has established the "Integrated Education Student Support Team". With the efficient use of Learning Support Grants, additional staff members are employed and professional services are outsourced. The whole-school approach is adopted to support different types of students with special education needs. Specific measures include individual and group literacy training and learning support, behavioural, social, emotional management, junior tutorial classes, school-based speech therapy and educational psychology services. The provision of parent and teacher training aims to empower different parties to help students integrate into school life. |

Home-School Co-operation |
To foster better parent-school communication, not only does the Incorporated Management Committee include elected parents. Our School and The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) organize yearly activities and seminars. It has also set up a scholarship to award students for outstanding conduct. |
School Ethos |
Our school is of good ethos. Our Principal and teachers share the same philosophy of Christian education and beliefs. A whole-school approach in the enforcement of discipline and the provision of counseling services is adopted. Teachers are firm yet kind in dealing with students.<br>Students are courteous, well-disciplined, and have a positive attitude towards learning. They love the school and participate in different services actively. Students have a strong sense of belonging to the school. Peer relationships are harmonious, with senior students being willing to help their junior peers. |

Teacher Professional Training and Development |
1. The Professional Development Division is responsible to coordinate the professional development in various domains of our teachers, especially in the learning and teaching aspect.<br>2. Professional Development sharing sessions are organized to familiarize teachers with different e-learning tools. On Staff Development Days, teachers share teaching ideas and strategies to cater for students’ diverse needs. <br>3. The professionalism of teachers is enhanced through peer lesson observation, lesson planning, inspection of students' exercise books and sharing of teaching experiences. <br>4. Our two Economics teachers were awarded the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence (Certificate of Merit). A Liberal Studies teacher has been awarded the Outstanding Teachers’ Award in the “Outstanding Teachers’ Award Election 2019” organised by Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers.<br>5. Our Tourism and Hospitality Studies teacher was selected as one of the Education Innovators by Ednovators. She designed cross-curriculum activities and integrated creativity and elements of personal growth into her lessons.<br>6. The School has joined the Programme on Planning Life Education in Primary/Secondary Schools in 2020-2022 School Year to enhance the school-based Life Education development. |
Life-wide Learning |
1. “Other Learning Experiences” clubs have been set up to enable students to further develop themselves morally, intellectually, physically, socially, aesthetically and spiritually. 2. Thirty-eight academic teams, sports teams, arts teams, service teams and uniform groups have been set up to widen students' horizons and develop their potential. 3. A Sports Promotion Coordinator is employed to promote sports programmes and enhance students’ participation in sports at school. 4. Senior form students are encouraged to be involved in social services to serve people in need in society. 5. Various leadership training programmes are organised for students to strengthen their skills and prepare them for future leadership roles. Different training camps are held for S.1 and S.4 students. Students are encouraged to set their own targets and develop generic skills. 6. The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP) is promoted to cultivate students with perseverance and the spirit of self-challenge. 7. Diversified assembly activities are held, including subject assemblies, life education, moral and civic education, career planning, Interactive Theater and the “Caring about Hong Kong” series etc. 8. The school is devoted to cultivating students’ spiritual growth and encouraging them to live out the faith. Regular activities include morning worship, student fellowship, prayer meeting, Gospel Week and meeting for Christian students. Junior form and S.6 Gospel Camps are organised annually. |
