Language Policy Our School adopts English as the main medium of instruction for all S1 students starting from 2022 to 2023. Students can adapt to a rich EMI environment early in the hopes of establishing a smooth transition to senior forms as well as university. Most academic subjects are taught in English in senior secondary levels and students are to sit the examination in HKDSE in English. Besides, designated classes and groups in each junior form have Chinese Language taught in Putonghua. To strengthen the English proficiency of students, our school provides different enhancement courses for junior form students. Value-added classes for Chinese, English and Mathematics are introduced in formal curriculum in senior forms to cater for learner diversity.
Learning and Teaching Strategies Through different learning modes, we raise students’ interests in learning, develop multiple intelligence and boost their confidence, with the ultimate goal of whole-person education. Apart from this, our student-centred curriculum can cater for students’ diversified abilities and needs. With great motivation to learn, our students become self-directed learners who can think critically and read extensively. We encourage students to develop various generic skills. These strategies have been proved highly effective by the tremendous improvements all these years in HKDSE. By encouraging participation in inter-school activities and competitions and organizing outbound excursions, we widen our students’ horizons and exposure to the world beyond the classroom.
School-based curriculum 1. Electives: 3X. Our school provides 13 subjects in Science, Arts, Commerce and Mathematics Extended Part Module I for our NSS students. Students are allocated to different electives according to their interest and ability in those subjects.
2. Curriculum highlights: A school-based curriculum "True Light Bearer Course" has been developed for junior forms. The Content and Language Integrated Learning, "CLIL", is introduced in S.1 to help students learn content subjects in English. English Literary Module has been put into the curriculum. Reading across the Curriculum is promoted in junior forms where students read subject-related texts with follow-up work. Cross-curricular modules are also developed. Cross-curricular projects such as English musicals and Big Sale Day are set up. Study tours enable students to learn about different cultures. iPads and online learning platforms are adopted in most subjects in our school. Multi-media classrooms have also been upgraded.
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity As for intellectual development, which appears in regular lessons and pull-out programs. The focus lies on enquiry-based, problem-based and product-based learning, where various thinking skills come into play: critical thinking, creative thinking, analytical thinking and decision making skills. Research skills for both quantitative (questionnaire) and qualitative (interview) studies are involved, aside from the ability of literature review and information processing. There are two categories of pull-out training: course-based and team-based, coached by either school teachers or instructors from renowned institutes. Of all items that involve intellectual training, reflection is an element for students to develop moral cultivation, for serving others with one's strengths is what we promote. Homogeneous groupings in various subject enable subject panels (Chinese, English, and Mathematics) to adjust curriculum, homework policy, pedagogy, assessment, feedback and extended learning in order to maximize the effectiveness of learning and teaching. For instance, there is an accelerated curriculum in high-achiever group in S.3 Mathematics, where problem-solving modules and the content of M1 in senior secondary are introduced. As for students who need more support academically, revision classes in Chinese, English and Mathematics are held after school for the lower achievers.
Approach to Integrated Education As in the last few years, the whole-school approach was employed to cater for the diverse special needs of students. Coordinated by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and assisted by the School Social Worker, Educational Psychologist and all teachers, various group activities were organized for SEN students. Individual learning plans were mapped out for some. Having been identified as having special education needs, with hearing impairment or other SEN problems, those students have special support from the school. Taught by qualified teachers with SEN training and given extra time in their examinations, they can gain confidence in a normal learning environment at school.
Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students
Home-School Co-operation The Kowloon True Light School Parent-Teacher Association was officially established in 1961. All the parents of our students are members. The KTLPTA aims at promoting communication between parents and the school as well as fostering cordial relations between parents and teachers and among the parents themselves. A wide range of activities, such as seminars and forums on developing parental education, are organized. In 2012, the Parent Institute was established. It is a certificate course, providing spiritual education to parents. Apart from studying God's words from the Bible, parents learn to put Jesus's teaching into life practice. Hopefully, when they can nurture their children with better communication, they can all be role models for their children. It is also believed that close co-operation and mutual support between home and school will help our girls grow and develop into responsible adults with positive values.
School Ethos The Student Affairs Committee, with the help of all class teachers, organizes different activities to develop students' personal qualities. They will become very motivated to learn, work with peers and serve others. Hence, they can develop their sense of belonging to school through the following activities:
1. Class activities: Students can form their class committee and develop class spirit through different functions. After designing their class motto, they organize different activities to put it into practice. They can even decorate their home classroom according to their motto.
2. Life Planning Education is conducted in all forms for further study or career choice.
3. There is Buzzing Time for class teachers to give counselling to students individually or in groups. Leadership Training: The leadership skills are enhanced in some leadership training camps and through organizing different activities.
5. Schemes like Personal Growth Camp, evangelistic sharings, morning and school assemblies all help students' moral and spiritual development.
6. Form Councils and Sister-forms hold various activities for students to enhance their relationships.
7. There is a "Apex League Programme" to help elites excel both academically and non-academically.
School Development Plan 1. To develop students into self-directed learners in a knowledge-based learning atmosphere.
2. To nurture students’ positive values through creating a positive school culture.
3. To foster collaborative learning of the teaching team within and beyond the school.
Teacher Professional Training and Development To build a professional learning community is always our concern. Here are our strategies:
1. To collect teachers' comments to raise teaching effectiveness in lesson study and professional learning sharing (PLS) meetings;
2. To run professional development activities related to the major concerns of this year, i.e. SDL and Positive Thinking;
3. To encourage more subject-based collaboration and cross-curricular collaboration for school-based development;
4. To encourage the study of teaching methodology for developing future curriculum planners through PL core group;
5. To have better liaison with external parties to explore new pedagogy;
6. To collaborate with education institutes for enhancing professional quality of the teaching staff.
Life-wide Learning To meet our aim of whole person development, we offer a rich curriculum and a wide range of extra-curricular activities to cater for individual interest. There is a wide variety of cross-border services, exchange programmes, historical excursions, multi-intelligence programmes, joint school functions, leadership training and camping. To develop leadership skills, Student Union, Student Fellowship, School Ambassador Schemes are run by students to foster their sense of belonging to the school.

Non-academic achievement:
1.
