Language Policy |
1. Some students from each form, S.1 to S.3, are learning Mathematics and Science in the medium of English, so as to interface the learning needs of senior and university curriculum.<br>2. All subjects that adopted English as the medium of instruction must have textbooks, assignments and student assessments in English. <br>3. To nurture students’ communication and critical-thinking skills, most of the subjects will adopt Chinese as the medium of instruction but with English vocabulary items and unit summaries. <br>4. Our school emphasizes biliteracy and trilingualism, conducting morning assemblies in English and Putonghua, both inter- and intra-school language activities and competitions, language ambassador scheme, language weeks, reading scheme, communicating with teachers from mainland and foreigner countries. |
Learning and Teaching Strategies |
Through curriculum planning, students can create a rich learning experience and the usage of community resources allows students to learn various subjects through a realistic environment, so that they can benefit in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. Core and extended courses are set for each subject to cater for the learning diversity of different students. Actively utilising the advantages of information technology, adopting mixed-mode e-learning and promoting learning assessments enable teachers to focus more on teaching and ensuring the effectiveness of students’ learning. |
School-based curriculum |
1. Electives: 2X. The school arranges different classes and groups according to students' abilities and small class teaching is adopted correspondingly. In terms of the subject selection in senior forms, in addition to core subjects, students are required to choose 2 subjects (2X) from 12 elective subjects or choose 3X according to their own needs. The core subjects of senior forms have been optimised to create learning space for students, some subjects provide aspects such as Creative Art, Life Planning, Reading Across Curriculum and other learning experiences. There are no boundaries among the field of arts, science and business, this can allow students to choose different subjects according to their interests and abilities.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: We implement Life & Society which covers the training of project learning, learning methods and the collaboration of key learning areas across the curriculum in S.1-S.3, aiming at promoting students' self-learning and high order thinking ability. English phonics and elements of language arts are implemented in order to promote an interactive learning environment and enhance students' motivation to learn. The Academic Committee inspects and evaluates our existing curriculum constantly, drawing up regular and non-regular curriculums according to our school's development and students' needs. Religious & Moral Education, Spiritual Education and Life Education are utilized in S.1-S.3 to facilitate whole-person development. The School-based Remedial Teaching Group coordinate the curriculum for the junior remedial classes. |
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity |
Obtain professional support from the visiting educational psychologist of the Catholic Diocesan of HK and school social worker. The Integrated Education Group has been established to take care of the students with special educational needs. The School-based Remedial Teaching Group is responsible for the coordination of all he supportive measures for remedial classes taken by subject. |

Home-School Co-operation |
There is a long history for the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of STS. Most of the parents are alumni of STS. That is why a close relationship has been built between PTA and the school. There are many workshops, seminars and newsletters for our parents every year to let parents share their experience about how to communicate with teenagers nowadays. In addition, a variety of interest classes (e.g. computer classes), picnic and tea gatherings are organized regularly to enhance the involvement and sense of belonging of parents’ members towards PTA. It is also a channel for the school to have communication with parents. |
School Ethos |
Our school’s spirit is simple and honest, emphasizing the nurture of students’ morality. In order to bring together the work and theory of The Discipline Committee and the Counseling Committee, they have been merged to form the Student Growth and Development Team, carrying out loving and caring education through all our teachers’ active participation. We adopt a positive attitude when handling students’ cases related to personal growth, academic or family issues. Besides punishing students, suitable guidance helps students learn from their mistakes. Our school also promotes religion nurturing, to let students often cherish compassion and hope to deal with adverse circumstances, to develop positive values and multiple potentials. In addition, the school is equipped with students' associations such as Prefects, Student Mentors and Students’ Union, to cultivate students to serve the society and self-governing ability. In favor of our students’ multiple learning environment, we have two class teachers for S.1-S.3 classes to enhance the support and to stay at school for lunch with them. We provide a comprehensive and generous scholarship program to encourage students to actively pursue excellence in various fields such as sports, music, performing arts, visual arts, community service, character, or academics. |

Teacher Professional Training and Development |
Our School encourages teachers’ continuing education, to strengthen and continue to improve teaching quality. By using a ration and developmental appraisal system, we hope to enhance our staff’s professional quality as well. On top of that, the implementation of a rating lesson observation also raises teachers’ teaching quality and heightens their sensitivity towards lessons. |
Life-wide Learning |
We adopt a whole-person approach to develop our students in the aspects of interpersonal relationship, multiple-intelligence and leadership. We have numerous activities in a variety of disciplines, for instance, sports, art, music and other special interests including environmental protection. There is an ECA session every Friday after school. Besides, other short-term interest classes, visits and international exchange programmes are offered to students throughout the school year. |
