Chinese is used as the medium of instruction. The elite classes with more English elements incorporated into the curriculums in S.1 and S.2 cater for students with better learning abilities. We are committed to creating an English learning environment and more teaching resources are allocated to the subject of English to enhance students' English proficiency. |
Learning and Teaching Strategies |
We insist on adopting mother-tongue as the medium of instruction but at the same time, we are devoted to raising students' English level. We provide students with activities hosted by native English teachers, hoping that they can become bi-literate. We also arrange split class teaching to reduce the class size of English lessons for students from Secondary One to Secondary Six. Liberal Studies is provided at all levels to cultivate students' character, enhance their critical thinking ability and stimulate their creativity so that versatile experiences in learning can be attained.<br>We focus on a well-balanced education between academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities, aiming at excellence in moral, intellectual, physical, interpersonal and aesthetic development. The characteristics of which include: (1) Inculcating the skills of leadership in students; (2) broadening students' mind and knowledge base; (3) enhancing students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in both Chinese and English languages and abilities in Arithmetic and Information Technology.<br>The school library has expanded its collections for reading and study. In order to raise students' interests in English, it has purchased English novels, comics and books with an accompanying CD-Rom in large quantities. It has developed and expanded its e-book collections in recent years to provide students with an ideal reading environment with a view to fostering good reading habits. Students can enhance their English competency through reading. In the hope of enhancing students' language ability, we have arranged: (1) An Extensive Reading Scheme for S.1 and S.2 students; (2) A Reading Award Scheme and reading sessions for students and teachers; (3) Story-telling sessions at lunchtime to arouse students’ interests in reading. |
School-based curriculum |
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Apart from the core subjects, our school is going to offer 11 electives for students to choose from in the New Senior Secondary curriculum, which includes Chinese Literature, Chinese History, History, Geography, Economics, Visual Arts, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We will offer a variety of subjects for students. Students can select two or three electives in the course combination sets according to their interests and abilities. Students who choose two electives must attend the Chinese and English Enhancement courses to strengthen their language proficiency. Our school will offer an elective extension module in Mathematics catered for students gifted in that subject.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: Chinese Language in the Putonghua class in S.1 and S.2 is conducted in Putonghua. An elite class with more English elements incorporated into the curriculums is offered in S.1 to S.3. Launch school-based curriculum in S.1 and S.4. |
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity |
The dual class teachers system is adopted from S.1 – S.6 to cope with the class work and cater for students’ needs. Split class teaching is implemented in English lessons at all levels to cater for students with different English proficiency levels. Enhancement courses and remedial classes are offered after school for gifted students and students with learning difficulties respectively. Various schemes and activities led by teacher counselors, class teachers, school social workers and guidance prefects from senior students are offered to S.1 students including the Bridging Course, Peer Counselling Scheme, military training and so on to help them integrate into and adapt to the new campus life as soon as possible. |
Approach to Integrated Education |
Our school is committed to building an inclusive and caring campus, using a "whole-school participation" model to support SEN students, identifying students' special learning needs early and catering for individual differences. Our "Student Support Team" include the principal, vice principal, academic affairs officer, life planning officer and assessment officer. "Learning Support Grant" is used in hiring additional teaching assistants and school-based psychological services. Our school provides homework and test adjustments, referral and individual psychological counseling for SEN students. Through the Parents Day, parents can communicate with class teachers, educational psychologists and school social workers to promote mutual cooperation. |

Home-School Co-operation |
The close collaboration between our school and parents enables us to foster students and assist in their growth together. The long-standing Home-School Cooperation Organization was established in 1958. A variety of activities such as talks, and a Lunar New Year party are held annually. We also help organize parent-child activities and offer Most Improved Student Award. The PTA Extensive Reading Fund is particularly set up to promote extensive reading. |
