Language Policy |
Trilingual teaching and learning remains our focus. English is the main teaching medium in junior forms, with Putonghua being the teaching medium in Chinese lessons in S.1 and some classes in S.2 & S. 3. Senior form students can study elective subjects in English as well. To further enhance the effectiveness of English teaching, each form of S.1-S.3 is split into 5 groups according to their levels for the purpose of catering individual differences and implementation of school-based curriculum. More English lessons are allotted for senior forms. After-school tutorial lessons are arranged daily for S.6. |
Learning and Teaching Strategies |
To optimize our teaching, group lesson planning, lesson observations, teaching and learning evaluations are regularly practised. Funding from CEG is well utilized by introducing various learning activities to tap students’ potentials. Junior and senior form students are given Learning Progress Reports and Interim Academic Reports respectively to receive feedback on their performance at different stages of the school year. |
School-based curriculum |
1. Electives: 2X and 3X. Students can choose elective subjects according to their interests.<br> 2. Curriculum highlights: We have been developing school-based curricula on Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics to facilitate effective teaching and learning. |
Approach to Catering for Learner Diversity |
Individual differences catered for through our school-based curricula and various approaches of teaching. Small classes are arranged for English lessons of S.1-S.3, English and Chinese speaking classes for junior and senior forms, Chinese, English and Mathematics classes of S.5-S.6 according to students’ levels. After school remedial classes are provided on Chinese, English and Mathematics. Enhancement classes are arranged on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Speech and Arts as well as IT. |
Approach to Integrated Education |
As for the aspect of integrated education, our school Student Support Team (SST), which is led by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) not only gives room to the teachers concerned to attend courses on catering for diverse learning needs, but also makes use of learning-support-grant(LSG) to provide support for students who have such special needs by means of, for example, adjustments of requirements on such students’ learning, as well as extra time allowance during tests and examinations. It is hoped that on one hand students with different learning needs can all enjoy a healthy learning environment, and on the other fairness in assessment and grading is guaranteed. |

Home-School Co-operation |
The Parents-Teachers relationship has always been a close and supportive one. Our unique tradition of visiting students’ home has started since the establishment of the school and the Parents-Teachers Association was established in 1958. The General Office, class teachers and parents complement each other and have maintained effective communication. There are constantly activities involving parents for better communication, like “Prize-giving Ceremony for Outstanding Students and Parent Volunteers”, talks for parents, etc. We have home visits to all S1 students every year. |
School Ethos |
The school emphasizes discipline but also value harmonious teachers-students relationship. To build up students’ confidence and their positive attitude towards life, students receive “Commendation Card” for their good performance. Students’ achievement can also be acknowledged through the “Star of Heung To Rewarding Scheme”. Our school has been presented “Caring School Award” for two consecutive years. Scholarships and allowances are given to students with good academic performance or financial difficulties. |
School Development Plan |
A student-oriented approach is adopted to create a harmonious learning environment, which is of utmost importance to cultivate good living habits. To further establish an all-round education, there are more diversified learning activities such as S1 military training camp, S2 and S3 adventure camps, S4 China study tours and S5 life-planning camps, etc. |
Teacher Professional Training and Development |
Our teachers are regularly engaged in seminars, exchanges, professional courses and study tours. School visits by educational institutes in China are well-received. |
Life-wide Learning |
All-round development is emphasized. About 40 extra-curricular activities are offered that each student must participate in at least one activity. The variety of our activities includes award-winning ones like speech training, Boy Scouts, Marching Band, Dance Club, Gymnastics, Rope-skipping, Basketball Team, Handchime & Handbell Team, Recorder Team, and Campus TV. Extra-curricular activities have become part of our regular curriculum in junior forms. |
